Although it is quite difficult to trace the history of this garment in strict chronological order, more or less, its evolution is as follows: in 1900, the denim jacket conquered the Western fashion scene, as all cowboys accepted it with excitement. This is due to the high durability and extremely masculine aura of the jacket. As the cowboy era disappeared and became part of American history, denim became a great way to pay homage to the Wild West - mainly by big-screen stars and country music performers - and in its authentic way of life. Today we all remember the man from the Marlborough commercial, who always wore a worn and tight denim jacket …

Hollywood has followed this trend. Bing Crosby wore a denim suit specially made for him by Levi Strauss & Co. It is said that a hotel in Canada did not allow him to enter its premises because he was dressed from head to toe in denim! In the movies, a denim jacket appears when the protagonist does something subversive or decadent about his time (for example, riding a motorcycle).

The denim jacket and pop culture

In the twentieth century, the denim jacket was removed from associations with the Wild West and Westerns and was included in the stylistic choice of the pop generation. Punk musicians, pop song composers, hip-hop performers are starting to wear it with pride, as it creates a mood for experimentation. Suddenly it becomes synonymous with rebellion against the rules. Tupac, Madonna, but before that, Clash, they prefer him. So it slowly makes its way to the catwalks and from there to haute couture.
